History

Alderney Plating has been around for almost 80 years, as the Finishing industry was very lucrative many years ago as industrial era called for a large amount of Finishing Works.

  • 1935   Alderney Plating  Works, as it was known, was established since 1935 by the MoD.
  • 1940’s  MoD sold it on to Singer Sewing Machines who used it for their typewriters
  • 1950’s  Singer sold to Link Hudson and Stan Ayres who took on much more private and commercial work.
  • 1970’s  The business was purchased by Tom Hinson who originated from Farrow & Ball.
  • 1980’s Flight Refuelling purchased it.
  • 1986  Alderney Plating purchased by Adrian Palmer, Colin Bryson and John Stead.
  • 1998  Adrian Palmer took sole ownership of Alderney Plating

About Us

Adrian Palmer

Adrian Palmer

Adrian completed his Electro Plating and Metal Finishing Apprenticeship and also the industrial chemistry in 1976 within the Twickenham Plating Group, where he learnt about aircraft/MoD type work.  In 1982 he moved into the Mechanical Metal Polishing Field, specialising more into private work such as polished chrome, classic car and motorbike work, then started out on his own in 1984, and subsequently went into partnership in 1986 with two colleagues.  He took over sole ownership in 1998.

Over the years Adrian has gained much experience in the metal plating and polishing and repairing industry and is able to offer a large amount of support on many items or subjects that require finishing.

Qualified and Experience Staff

We have a full repairing workshop, and our staff have many, many years of experience.  Ken, our longest serving staff member,  is a Silversmith and has been working with Adrian for over 20 years and specialises in repairs and restoration.

Jason has been with Alderney Plating for over 12 years, and specialises in MoD contracts and the commercial work.
